Chelsea bought Romelu Lukaku for over £100m a year ago, and now look set to loan him back from whence he came for just €10m for a season.
Perhaps it’s no wonder then that Italian agent Giocondo Martorelli has described the move as a “great deal” for the club in quotes on Tuttomercatoweb translated by Sempre Inter.:
“Kristjan Asllani, Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku would be three great deals for Inter, although I think only one can arrive in attack. [Inter CEO] Beppe Marotta is doing something important. Today Inter if they close all the deals in progress will be super competitive.”
Of course, if it’s a good deal for Inter it’s bad deal for Chelsea, that’s the reality. The Blues want him out for sporting reasons, but there can be no hiding our heads in the sands about what a gift this is for Inter.
Sometimes you have to just hold your breath and take the hit on past mistakes, and this is probably a better solution than falling prey to the sunk cost fallacy and letting Lukaku have another rotten season, but it’s hard to swallow – especially when we now have to hear about what a steal it was for Inter.
