The final details of Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter Milan have just been announced by David Ornstein.
It’s been clear for a couple of days now that the move was going to happen, and the only remaining question was the terms.
Chelsea will get nothing like the €20m they were hoping for, with just €8m “plus add ons” with no purchase option.
🚨 Agreement in principle for Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan on straight 1yr loan. Fee €8m + addons. Salary & performance bonuses done. Medical expected next week. Sources indicate Boehly relationship with Roc Nation’s Yormark key @TheAthleticUK #CFC #Inter https://t.co/rhLsis7RZd

It’s not clear what the salary details are, but all reports previously had claimed that Lukaku was taking a huge personal hit, and Chelsea were paying little, if anything.
That’s cold comfort really, from a terrible transfer that stands to grow more calamitous every year until someone actually buys him.
The fact that this was about as good an outcome as we could realistically have hoped for shows you how deep trouble we were in – but at least it’s done now, and we can move on to finding the right solution.

Good news let him go
