Newcastle appear to be seriously interested in signing Armando Broja from Chelsea after his strong debut season in the Premier League on loan with Southampton last season.
The Northern Echo‘s Chief Sports Writer Scott Wilson says the Magpies are “confident” they will be able to sign the forward, but note that Chelsea have yet to decide whether they want to sell the forward at all.
They’ve sold their top striker, and have just a couple of attackers who can play up top on the books. It’s hard to see them sanctioning a departure for Broja without a new signing in place.
Newcastle have the money to tempt the striker, and to pay him enough to make him want to leave Chelsea. Their failed attempts to sign Hugo Ekitike last month mean they’re still keen to sign a top young forward, and Broja could be that man – if Chelsea decide to let him go.
