Chelsea take next step towards defender signing with conference call arranged

Chelsea are about to hold a conference call over the future of Matthijs De Ligt, according to a Tweet today from Alfredo Pedulla.

His Tweet today claims that the club used some handy emojis and hashtags to explain in code that Juventus and Chelsea are set to hold a group call about a potential transfer for the Dutch international.

The situation, as we understand it, is that Chelsea want to throw some player in to the deal, while Juve want cash only. Presumably that’s what will be discussed in the call.

It’s been fascinating to see the way that De Ligt has moved to the front of the queue of this move.

Jules Kounde looked as close to a done deal as you get as the season comes to an end, only for the new ownership to blow up the old recruitment structure and move De Ligt to the top of their list of priorities.
