Chelsea have a lot of hard work to do this summer, and contractual issues are going to be a huge part of this.
There are the issues of 2023 contracts coming in to play, especially in the midfield area. Both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante have contract running out at the end of June 2023, almost a year away. Chelsea will want to avoid the same situations that they saw with both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer.
Sources: 18 attackers that are on Chelsea’s transfer shortlist this summer.
It will be a case now of either selling them this summer, renewing their contracts, or risk losing them as a free agent come next summer.
It has always been the thought that both players have unclear futures this summer and could be available, but Jorginho’s agent at least, is suggesting that his client wants to stay at Jorginho and they will discuss a new deal in September. This is obviously a bit odd, as Chelsea will want to discuss it much before then before the window ends, in case the indication is that an agreement cannot be met, then he will need to be sold.
