Chelsea’s most likely team for opening game of the Premier League season – as it stands

At this time of year, the newspapers are full of “Team X’s potential 11 for next season,” where effectively every player linked to a team is jammed into a made up formation to earn clicks.

But what if we were to do a very realistic one for Chelsea?

Given the players who have left in defence this summer, and the lack of signings to replace them, we can only assume Thomas Tuchel is planning to move to a back 4, as has been reported in various places.

With Raheem Sterling now a cert to arrive, that leads us to believe that this is going to be the formation for our first game of the season:

Havertz

Sterling-Mount-Werner

Kante-Jorginho-Kovacic

Chilwell-Silva-Chalobah-James

Mendy

As much as we love Trevoh Chalobah, that really shows our weak spot in defensive cover.

Can you think of a more realistic option? We don’t want your dreams or your hopes, just what you genuinely think it will be.
