Chelsea fans relieved to find out that striker’s absence is nothing to do with potential transfer away

When Chelsea announced their squad for their US tour, there was a wave of panic about the absence of one man – Armando Broja.

When he wasn’t on that initial flight, there was plenty of talk that this meant he was close to a move away from Chelsea.

There had been no shortage of rumours after two successive strong seasons on loan, first with Vitesse Arnhem and then with Southampton last time out.

But he’s now set off to join the rest of his teammates, and the Daily Mail today explain that the delay was a simple paperwork issue rather than anything to do with deals to move elsewhere being negotiated.

That’s great news – with Romelu Lukaku gone, he’s in a great position to leap forward in Thomas Tuchel’s thinking, and this tour is the perfect opportunity to impress. Until we sign another striker, Broja is the closest to a number 9 we’ve got.
