Chelsea and Barcelona in direct contact over Azpilicueta transfer with personal terms already set

Barcelona and Chelsea are in “direct talks” over Cesar Azpilicueta’s potential transfer between the two clubs, according to today’s update from Fabrizio Romano.

News on that front had gone very quiet, but now there seems to be an uptick in contact as Chelsea move towards securing other defensive reinforcements.

Romano insists that there’s already an a potential agreement in place between the player and Barcelona, and it’s just down to the clubs to agree a fee now.

The insider adds that the Spanish club “want to speed up the negotiation.”

Azpi had apparently been promised by Roman Abramovich’s administrators that he could leave for a reasonable fee given the short time on his contract and his loyal service to the club.

Whether the Todd Boehly group will honour that isn’t clear, but a small sum compared to what Barca are spending elsewhere should keep everyone happy.

We expect a move for a right wing back very soon.
