Chelsea are willing to sell Timo Werner this summer, and the winger is willing to leave.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who also had some takes on the winger’s decision to join the club in the first place.
Liverpool’s interest in the then RB Leipzig talent was well established at that point, but Chelsea blew them out of the water with a superior wage offer.
According to Romano, that was a fatal mistake:
“In my opinion, Werner is a high-level player but he needs a different style of play to shine: because of this, I feel a move to Liverpool instead could have helped him fulfil his potential.
He’s probably right. In fact, Werner’s move has gone so badly compared to his potential that one can only conclude that he made the wrong decision. Even staying put at Leipzig would likely have lead to a shedload more Bundesliga goals, and an equally if not more profitable move a year later.
Liverpool are a better team, and have been by some distance since he signed for us. There’s just no denying that from his perspective, he would have done better going to Anfield in 2020.
