Barcelona have verbal agreement for top Chelsea target, transfer will be “signed soon”

The final piece of the puzzle in Jules Kounde’s move to Barcelona has fallen into place.

According to top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet from just an hour ago, Barcelona have verbally agreed terms for the transfer with Sevilla, and with personal terms already long agreed, it’s just a matter of completing the paperwork.

It’s a bitter blow for Chelsea, who as recently as 10 days ago looked heavy favourites to sign the versatile central defender. Missing out on him, as well as top target Matthijs de Ligt, is a massive setback for a club that can’t afford many more.

It’s now back to the drawing board, and the slow process of agree a fee with a club and personal terms with a player has to start from scratch. Thomas Tuchel must be pulling his hair out at this stage – this was only all necessary because the club allowed two of their options to leave on a free this summer.
