When word first broke of Chelsea interest in Anthony Gordon of Everton at the weekend, we couldn’t really get our head round it.
He doesn’t seem to be… that good. Everton desperately don’t want to sell him, and we have needs in other areas that seem more pressing.
At first we wrote it off as just a smokescreen to cover up something else.
But now there are increasing reports that are gradually convincing us that there’s something to it.
Today’s Guardian reports that the Toffees rejected our initial £40m offer, and then add that yesterday we made a £45m bid, also rejected.
There’s something about the level of details in these reports, combined with how many writers are making the claims simultaneously, that convince us that there’s something to this.
We’re not sure what this means for our other wingers – have we found destinations for them already? But we’re starting to really believe Gordon is our top target.
