Ruben Loftus-Cheek stepped into the Chelsea team at right wing back last week and did really well. He keeps that place today against Leeds.
Before the game, Chelsea TV asked Thomas Tuchel how he thought RLC had got on against Spurs, and his answer revealed a lot about the pair’s relationship.
Tuchel admitted that RLC had been good, and that he wanted to praise him, but also that he always feared that the midfielder would ease off if given too much praise.

It’s an issue which really aligns with our view of RLC’s personality – maybe Tuchel has finally unlocked it?
Some players respond better to the stick than the carrot, and while we all have seen Ruben’s brilliant talent, it’s also true that he plays within himself sometimes.
Other managers might have tried different approaches, but Tuchel’s decision to always be demanding more seems to be working really well for both parties.
