West Ham’s move for Emerson Palmieri was a curious one – it was on, then off, then on again, if you believe what you read in the papers.
After all that, and a breakdown due to personal terms which looked like it had sent the whole thing to the scrapheap, the deal is almost done it seems.
The Evening Standard report that Emerson today took the second part of his medical ahead of a £15m move across London.
That then frees up some liquid cash ready to be spent on whoever our next panic buy target is.
Emerson should soon be joined in the departure lounge by Marcos Alonso, his fellow left back whose move to Barcelona has been even more protracted and stop-start than Emerson’s transfer.
But by the end of next week, we suspect that both could be at their new clubs, and Chelsea can finally move on from this era of left backs.
