Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard has just linked Chelsea with a bid for Harry Maguire of Manchester United, following up on links from a week ago.
With Leicester holding firm over Wesley Fofana, the suggestion is that Chelsea might walk away from that and try to get England star Maguire on the cheap.
Now the first time these links were brought up, it all seemed rather transparent. What would possibly generate more clicks outrage, engagement and clicks than linking Chelsea to a player who is currently so unpopular at his own club that his own fans want him gone?

But now it’s coming from the measured and well connected Kinsella, we’re willing to believe it a little more.
He will be desperate to get out of Manchester United, especially after being dropped for their last game, and Chelsea are keen to buy a central defender.
It’s so crazy, it might just work.
If any of the new hierarchy at Chelsea are interested in the fans opinion they need to think seriously why would you want to buy this total buffoon (Maguire) who is clearly not good enough to play for Man United (they were a damn sight better when ETH dropped him v Liverpool plus we already have Chalobah who seemingly every team in europe are interested in taking off our hands
