Ethan Ampadu set for second Serie A loan spell – this time with purchase clause

Ethan Ampadu is close to joining Serie A side Spezia on loan, according to rumours published today by Fabrizio Romano.

The deal is far enough down the line that there’s already a medical lined up for the next few days, and we could well see the Wales international in action for his new team as soon as next weekend, all being well.

There’s a €15m purchase option apparently included in the deal, which sounds pretty cheap considering Ampadu’s potential and pedigree, but equally Spezia aren’t the richest team around, and it may be a stretch for them to pay that.

This is all tied up with the news – also reported by Romano – that Trevoh Chalobah will be staying put this season. Clearly Thomas Tuchel has decided he would rather keep Chalobah than Ampadu as his squad player centre back.

A lot of fans will be happy with that – but some will feel that Ampadu should have been given a chance.
