Conor Gallagher’s time at Crystal Palace went about as well as his start at Chelsea has gone badly.
While his time back at Stamford Bridge has begun with a seat on the bench, a starring role on the wrong end of a thrashing, and a red card; his spell at Palace saw him excel in Patrick Vieira’s midfield.
Maybe that why Palace have chosen now to make a late attempt to sign the Chelsea academy product permanently.
After an early wobble which may have put doubts into Thomas Tuchel’s mind about the midfielder’s quality, and put doubts into Gallagher’s mind about his playing time this season, Gary Jacob of the Times is reporting that Palace have decided to swoop to try and get their star of last season back this time permanently.
We still can’t see it happening – time is running out for Chelsea to replace him now. But it’s a real test of nerves all round.
