Chelsea are in talks to sign Rafael Leao from AC Milan, according to a report from Gary Jacobs in the Times this afternoon.
Not long ago we would have taken this with a major pinch of salt, but we’re starting to believe it – here’s why.
Firstly, our top targets in that position have already moved to other places – or to Chelsea. That includes Raphinha and Raheem Sterling.
Secondly, we’ve already got rid of competition that position. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner have gone, and Hakim Ziyech looks like he’s going very shortly.
Finally, the bad results to start the season, and the lack of cutting edge in general, will make those in charge of transfer decisions more likely than ever to push through a deal sooner rather than later.
Whether Leao is the right player is another question, but there’s only 2 days left of this window, and it’s time to be decisive.
