Chilwell opens up about emotional return to team

Ben Chilwell was the hero of today’s win (well, him and the VAR official).

The left back came into the game as a second half substitute and scored the first goal, attacking the box well and exploiting confusion in the defence to turn the ball home between Lukasz Fabianski’s legs.

His best moment was still to come. With the game looking like it was heading for a draw, he made a really dangerous overlapping run down the left and picked out Kai Havertz to score what turned out to be the winner.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he admitted it had a been a rough ride back from his injury last November:

He’s been benched for the last few games with Marc Cucurella playing ahead of him, but after today we can only assume it’s Chilwell back in the driver’s seat for the games to come.

That’s one position we’re very strong in now.
