Chelsea spent north of £250m in the summer transfer window that only just closed, but already we are seeing reports that they are set to spend big again in the winter transfer window that opens in January.
The new owners came in and made a big statement by investing money in a handful of new players to come straight into the squad. But already the plans have turned to January and the big spending will come again.

That is according to The Times, who claim that Chelsea’s new ownership are understood to be unhappy about performances and structure of the squad and intend to invest aggressively again in the January window.
Of course, Graham Potter has come in as the new manager now and might have his own wish-list of players that he would like to see come in. But after backing Thomas Tuchel so heavily in the summer and then sacking him, you have to wonder about doing the same thing again.
Have to “wonder” what? That they’d back the manger THEY (Boehly & Co) hired with the players HE wants and then turn around and sack him out of the blue? That would be ridiculous and it follows that it’s incredibly unlikely!
Boehly inherited Tuchel, and, given the time crunch following approval of the sale, Boehly no doubt hoped the German, backed with a handful of top players of his own choosing, could recreate the success he enjoyed upon first taking the reins in 2020. He didn’t show any clear sign of doing so, and so Boehly, having hoped originally to avoid “rocking the boat” in the face of the tight timelines in the summer transfer window, decided he had no choice but to go out and choose “his” man to replace Tuchel. But to imply that Boehly will now treat Potter (his man) to a sudden sacking is to fail to understand Boehly or the situation he was facing when he initially kept the manger he inherited.
You guys really need to do your homework on Boehly & Co. Chelsea News are falling back far too often (either explicitly or implicitly) on some version of an already tired “this Yank knows nothing about football” trope. Boehly is a shrewd businessman and you need only look at what he’s done with the Los Angeles Dodgers to understand that he takes his sports VERY seriously.
The storied Dodgers franchise was a wreck when he took over roughly 10 years ago and today they are the winningest team in Major League Baseball, featuring the highest payroll, and having played in 3 of the last 5 World Series—winning it in 2020. And their manager, Dave Roberts, has been in place since 2016.
So, no, I really don’t think we need “wonder” whether Boehly & Co are likely to pull “an Abramovich” and sack Potter by spring or something. As titillating as such suggestions might be, and as much fun as it surely is to have yet another sly go at “the Yank” who everyone thinks is ignorant about football, a lot of the commentary I’m seeing belies an ignorance on the part of the writers here about the track record of their new owner. I urge you to look into him and save yourself the further embarrassment of talking about him like he’s a fool.

Tuchel’s team (not the inherited one back in 2020) was showing signs of instability and inconsistency. And TT’s antics on the sideline were over the top…he’d lost it and the players were struggling. I believe that under Tuchel we would have eventually lost Conor, Broja, Colwill, not to mention Lukaku, among others, permanently! You sell Giroud (age issue?) who’s banging them in at Milan and go and buy Aubameyang! Doesn’t make sense!!
