Chelsea have a number of players with contracts running down either next summer or the one after, so there are some situations to be sorted out.
Last season it was key defenders who had contracts running down and negotiations for new extensions ongoing, this season it will be the same situation for midfielders. Most notably N’Golo Kante and Jorginho.
The issue with Kante right now is that he is consistently out injured, becoming hugely injury-prone in recent seasons. This means that the Chelsea owners are unwilling to give him a long extension. But Kante is also unwilling to sign a short extension and has turned down Chelsea’s latest offer.
As you can see below from David Ornstein from The Athletic’s tweet, Chelsea recently offered Kante a new deal but he was unwilling to sign the contract due to it being a short-term offer. He wants longer. Chelsea will lose him on a free if an agreement cannot be reached.

Ahhh, this is such a tough one. Kante has got to be one of my all-time favorite players (at Chelsea or anywhere) with his work rate, his unparalleled ability to win the ball back for his team, and his no nonsense humility. Who wouldn’t want to
be the guy’s teammate? Goodness knows, he might be one of the only players on the planet who can single-handedly cover for Jorginho’s defensive liabilities (and that’s saying a lot)! That said, we can’t seem to figure out how to keep him healthy and it’s hard to see how it makes sense, at his age, to offer him more than 3 years. Does it?

Kante is a good player no doubt about that but with his injuries and age I think is risk to renew his contract with 3yrs. Two is minimum.

I totally agree we should have locked down Rudiger who, at 28, was entering the prime 3-5 years of his career. But the issue with Kante is quite different given age (31) and health. There’s no question that all Blues fans love him and want him to stay as a matter of principle. I mean who wouldn’t want (a healthy!) N’Golo Kante?! The question is whether 3 years is shrewd business if he’s liable to be injured an increasing amount of the time.
Before 2019-20 he missed just 7 games for Chelsea due to injury, but, according to Transfermarkt, he’s missed 56 games since. That’s an entire season!
We all love the man and the player, but don’t you think this situation deserves more than a simple, “yep, give him whatever he wants” response?
This is really tough but we pray Kante will accept but what is wrong i Dnt see anything bad go giving him a long term deal after his good at his job so they extend the deal
