The deed is done, whatever you think of it. Thomas Tuchel has been fired and Graham Potter brought in to replace him.
In the end it was a swift transition, with the sense that it had been planned from the start. But the more time passes, the more we’re hearing other strands of the story of what could have been.
A curious one comes in L’Equipe today, who report that the Blues had considered Vahid Halilhodzic as a replacement for Tuchel.
He was sacked as Morocco boss last month, despite getting them to the World Cup, and his name most often appears on this site as the man who booted Hakim Ziyech from the international squad.
His agents apparently put him forward to replace Tuchel, but probably didn’t realise that Potter was already in our sights.
In any case, if Potter hadn’t been available, it seems more likely we would have turned to a bigger name that the former Nantes and PSG striker.
