Trevoh Chalobah was given a really unexpected chance to play in the first team squad by Thomas Tuchel a year ago, and whatever happens from now he will always remember the German coach as the man who gave him his breakthrough at his boyhood club.
His playing time diminished through the season though, and the arrival of several new faces this summer makes it tough to see where he fits in as a regular from now on.
Having already battled his way into the team once though, he’s ready to do it again. In quotes picked up by TalkSport, the defender said he was ready to show the new guy what he can do.
“I feel that when the chance comes, it comes. I will always be patient because playing for a club like this is not easy, there is always going to be competition.
“That is the best thing for all the players and for me, training with the best players day in, day out. I try not to focus on the outside noise and focus what I’m doing and what I want to do this season. That is to get myself into the team and play a lot of games this season.”
For now, chances will be limited. We’re only playing one game this month, so there’s no need for Potter to rest his likely first choice defence of Thiago Silva, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana.
The World Cup break, when all those guys are likely to be away, is when Chalobah can likely really start impressing his new boss in training.
