It’s always interesting to glance at WhoScored’s ratings from a game to see what they made of it.
Their pick of the bunch for Chelsea were Mason Mount, Marc Cucurella and Thiago Silva, all with 7.3/10 which seems fair.
All of them were excellent, and played well enough to deserve a comfortable win. In fact, Reece James was good, Raheem Sterling scored a goal, even Mateo Kovacic looked to be getting closer to his best again.
Perhaps this was a decent first game for Graham Potter, despite an ultimately disappointing result.
The algorithm doesn’t know the score remember, and just rates players on their actions rather than the outcomes.
So in this case, with 7 Chelsea players rated higher than anyone on the Salzburg team, you can see we probably did deserve to win.
But “deserved to” doesn’t get you anywhere in football, and doesn’t stop you being bottom of the group with one point after two games.

This and that and what not but no cigar
The team was rubbish different manager same crap
