We wanted to see a really confident performance from Chelsea against AC Milan as Graham Potter looked for a statement result at home, and we got one.
Key to that was Reece James, whom WhoScored had rated as the best player on the pitch with an impressive 8.9/10 rating.
He got a good assist, smashed in a brilliant goal, and kept our opposition’s best player quiet throughout. He had 2 key passes and made 3 tackles, as the Blues took over the game in the second half.
Most importantly he had the most touches of any player on the pitch, showing his amazing influence on the game.
James has started this season in incredible form overall, and new coach Potter’s priority will be keeping him fresh, fit and playing like this. Not every team will give James as much freedom as Milan did – but when he’s in form, there’s only so much that other teams can do in any case.
