There were some fears about the seven changes that Graham Potter made to the team that played in midweek, but that 45 minutes was as well as we’ve seen Chelsea play all season.
With no Reece James, no Raheem Sterling and no Thiago Silva, there were legitimate fears about how this team would get on. Those three have been our best performers so far, and it seemed certain we’d lack some fluidity without them.
Instead it was a really positive half of football for us. The new players looked hungry and fresh, and they created hatfuls of chances. It wasn’t until the final touch of the first half that we made them count however, as Kai Havertz nodded in Mason Mount’s cross.
There were real question marks about Cesar Azpilicueta’s place in the team too after some bad recent showings, but he was the best player on the park in the first 45 minutes, and excelled both defensively and offensively.
