Mason Mount’s performance against Wolves yesterday was excellent, and the numbers bear that out.
The midfielder picked up two assists – one a lovely arrowed cross to the far post to pick out the rising Kai Havertz; the other a neat backspinning through ball played as a 1-2 with Christian Pulisic.
Even beyond that, his numbers were brilliant. He had 5 key passes, more than anyone else on the pitch. He made 3 crosses, 2 of them accurate. He played 4 long balls and 1 through ball. Most incredibly, all of this came in just 72 minutes on the pitch, before he was taken off for a well earned rest.

WhoScored ended up awarding him an 8.5 match rating, making him the highest rated on the pitch.
It’s not been Mount’s best season so far, but yesterday he was superb, and if Graham Potter can keep getting his midfielder in the right position, it could end up being Mount’s best campaign yet, despite the slow start.
