It was revealed today that Reece James’ injury problem is worse than originally feared, meaning that the full back will join Wesley Fofana and N’Golo Kante on the injury list.
Both Kante and James had positive initial prognoses, before late set backs.
It’s terrible timing for Chelsea, who in the last month sacked both the head of their medical department and their chief physio as part of the new ownership’s total reboot of the club from top to bottom.
Other have been filling in for them – including a celebrity physio on a consultancy basis, but none of them can replace having a proper, well established medical system in place.
These changes really feel like they should have been made in the summer if they were really necessary. It’s just an unfortunate quirk of timing of course, but we’re not sure that Dave Grohl’s physio is really ready to save three football superstars’ World Cups at short notice.
