A long day of injury updates has finally concluded, with good news and bad.
Reece James is out for 8 weeks, and will miss the World Cup. That’s brutal.
It’s hard to compensate for that, but at the very least the scan on Mason Mount’s thigh showed no damage, and he will likely be in the mix against Aston Villa tomorrow.
He will be all the more important with James out. It seems likely that Ruben Loftus-Cheek is likely to be called in to action at right back to cover, meaning one midfielder fewer to pick from in the middle.

This scan being fine makes is almost certain he plays week in week out while James is gone, with a couple of token breaks here and there.
Mount has been unbelievably durable in his career so far, but we’ve also seen his form dipped when he’s overused. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
