Pretty much every player in Graham Potter’s squad – from Kepa all the way up to Armando Broja up top – has been given a chance since the new man took over.
There is one exception – Denis Zakaria.
Despite an injury to N’Golo Kante, suspension for Conor Gallagher at one point and the deployment of Ruben Loftus-Cheek at other times, Zakaria hasn’t had a single minute.
There are whispers that a return to Juventus is already planned for January for the loanee, but Graham Potter denied that any decisions about his future had been taken.
“There is no decision been made at all on that. Denis is in the group and has been training well,” Potter said in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard.
“He is ready to help the team but there is competition for places in that area. He is an important member of the team and is patient and trying to help the team from the side at the moment. He is waiting for his chance.”
Now that Reece James and Wesley Fofana have joined Kante on the injury list, and the games are coming twice a week, this feels like the best chance that Zakaria will ever get to make his mark.
