Graham Potter is really getting the hang of these Chelsea press conferences.
Injury news, questions about things happening at other clubs, contract updates on his squad. That’s the usual pattern, as today showed.
In terms of contracts, it’s N’Golo Kante’s turn in the spotlight. The France international has a deal that runs out at the end of the year, and Potter was asked whether there had been any contact with him about arranging a new one.
In typical Potter fashion, he was pretty non-committal and generic about the whole thing.
“The most important thing for us and for me is that we help him get fit. That is the focus. He has a long road ahead of him so we have to make sure we get the right treatment to help him, to get him back fit and strong, and then when he is enjoying his football we can think about those things then,” the Chelsea coach said in quotes picked up by Football.London.
Kante’s endless injuries are bad, and will certainly have given the whole club a lot to think about in terms of offering a new deal. The fact that he’s had to have surgery, deep into his 30s, on top of the injury, will only increase the doubts.
Potter has not managed the France star in a single game yet – we wonder how many matches they will cross over for by the time we get to May.
