Oriol Romeu, currently on loan at Valencia, does not yet know if he will remain at Chelsea next season and is set to discuss his future at Chelsea this summer with Jose Mourinho.
Last summer the Spanish central defender returned to his native country and joined Valencia on a season-long loan deal. He remains an important player as he contributed to the 3-2 victory against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Saturday.
Asked if he would like to come back to London and have his place in the first team squad, the 22-year-old said,
“I don’t know yet but I need to decide at the end of the season. Many things can happen.”
“We will sit down and decide what is best for me to do. They are watching me and they are always telling me things. They are looking after me and that’s good.”
Romeu underlined the fact that he was happy when Mourinho let him to go to Valencia in the summer so he could have more time to improve on his game.
Romeu enjoying his time in Spain
“I’m enjoying life in Valencia, I’m doing what I need to do, which is playing, playing, playing, and I’m getting the confidence that I need every weekend, and getting better week-by-week and I need to carry on.”
Chelsea is facing current league leaders Manchester City on Monday night, who stand three points adrift. The Spaniard said he was excited to watch it in a key Premier league title race.
“I try to watch every game because it’s my team and I want the best for them. Hopefully they will win. It’s a difficult game, but they have the players and the quality they need to win,” he said.
