Well, the news about Christopher Nkunku went from bad to worse – and now it’s been revealed to be a total disaster.
The attacker finally arrived after a wait of almost a year, and looked brilliant in preseason. He performed to a really high level, but also looked to be the creative hub of Mauricio Pochettino’s new team, tactically.
Now the club have just announced in a statement that the injury he picked up in our final friendly is going to require surgery, and will likely keep him out until December.
It’s just the worst possible news for this new regime, and it may well be enough to force a serious change in our transfer plans. Another attacking player was pretty low priority until now, but as it stands we have no real depth as number ten or on the wing.
It will be very interesting to see if our interest in players like Michael Olise is stepped up dramatically now.
