Dermot Gallagher was on Sky Sports today doing “ref watch”, where he dismissed claims of a penalty against Chelsea for a handball against Nicolas Jackson from a corner.
It seems pretty clear to us – the ball was flying right at his chest, he pulls his arms in to avoid touching the ball, but it ends up hitting one of them directly in front of his body. The ball also got a flick off an attacker directly in front of him.
Given he was shrinking his silhouette rather than growing it, and given the ball would have hit him with or without his arm, it seems fair to allow play to continue. Gallagher agreed.
