Yesterday marked Reece James’ first game as Chelsea’s permanent captain, and after the game his manager Mauricio Pochettino was asked about why he had chosen the right back to take up the role.
The new manager listed all of the reasons – James is a great player, he loves the club, he’s respected in the dressing room, he’s a leader and is adored by the fans.
“He’s the perfect player to be a captain,” Pochettino concluded. It’s hard to argue with any of that, and as long as he stays fit, it’s hard to think of a better choice.
