(Video): TalkSport pair explain why Chelsea’s spending has been a mistake on two levels

Simon Jordan’s explanation on TalkSport the other day of how Chelsea’s spending wasn’t going to cause Financial Fair Play issues was very well laid out. But as he said at the time, the fact he understood it didn’t mean he thought it was a good idea.

Today he went into detail on why he thought the mega spend, despite not necessarily being against the rules, might not be good sense.

Then it was on to Danny Murphy’s take on the football side of things – he claimed that despite all the spending, Chelsea hadn’t managed to sign a single player who would get into Man City’s first team.

Do you agree with them, or do you like the policy of front loading 5-10 years of transfers right now while we can escape UEFA’s FFP restrictions?

You can see all their thoughts in the video embedded here:

  1. Lol! It’s totally irrelevant whether our players would fit into Pep’s system. It only matters whether they work well together in Poch’s system. The results thus far (even without Caicedo and Lavia) are very encouraging. It will take time to develop chemistry and learn whether all the spending has been worth it, and so it’s patently ridiculous for these guys to be acting like they can assess it at this moment. Total nonsense—but isn’t that what they get paid to do? Hah hah hah!

  2. Chelsea has young exciting squad who are hungry for success. The management of the team is building for the future and comparing Chelsea to Manchester City is irrelevant to me. After all we saw that City is ordinary and not so special in the Super cup. In the near future, Chelsea will take the premier league by storm and dominate for years. I totally disagree with the pundit on this one.

  3. Football is littered with opinions and Murphy has him .As a Chelsea supporter I have mine but to a degree I don’t necessarily disagree with him but he is missing the point that most of the signings havent been bought with 23/24 solely in mind it’s more about the future
KDB for instance is a great player but as we are seeing his age in terms of injuries is catching up with him similarly Walker inevitably at 33 is clearly still a very good player but his game is built around pace and that will slowly but surely decline.
Stones, Silva Kovacic will this time next season be into their thirties and yes may have a year or so at the top age will catch up with them sooner than say Fernandez.
But the point that Murphy has missed above all is that it’s Peps coaching that has elevated certain of their squad to the exceptional levels they have reached
As for Jordan again I don’t necessarily disagree with him but just as he may turn out to be right he might just as easily turn out to be wrong
