OFFICIAL: Romelu Lukaku joins Roma on loan

It’s finally over.

The transfer saga that’s dominated the summer from before the window even opened has finally come to an end on the final day of August. Romelu Lukaku has left the building.

He will be back, of course – after months of holding firm and insisting they would only accept a permanent offer for him, Chelsea ended up buckling and realising that a loan was the only way to get him off their hands. It seems they’ve figured out a decent deal with Roma on that front, but it’s still ultimately a failure in terms of the boundaries they set themselves. It brings the £100m striker another year closer to the end of his contract, with no significant cash yet banked.

On the other hand, in terms of trying to make this season a success, it was vitally important to get the Belgian albatross out of Cobham, and now we’ve finally done it.

We hope he scores lots of goals, gets bought outright by Jose Mourinho’s team, and never comes back.
