Bertrand joins Aston Villa on loan

Aston Villa have confirmed the capture of Chelsea left-back, Ryan Bertrand. The 24 year old, who made his Champions League debut for the Blues in their Munich triumph, has joined the Midlands outfit until the end of the season.

The news originally came from José Mourinho’s press conference this morning, but has since been made public via Aston Villa’s official website.

Bertrand has struggled to find his form this season

The out-of-favour left-back will be revelling in the opportunity for first team football, having fallen further down the pecking order with Chelsea’s Azpilicueta showing his versatility.

There are reports also linking Mourinho’s side with a bid for young Englishman, Luke Shaw. If a deal is to materialise, one can only imagine that game time for Bertrand will be severely lacking.

He, however, insists he is happy to have made the switch,

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to come here,” Bertrand told the club’s official website. “Aston Villa is a fantastic club with a massive fanbase and a great history.

“To get this chance to come here and play some games will be a really good step for me. Whenever I’ve played for Chelsea here at Villa Park the fans have been fantastic and have always created a great atmosphere.”

According to Chelsea’s official website, Bertrand will be the 24th Blues player to be sent out on loan. A comprehensive list comprising of other promising youngsters, Lukaku and Courtois, amongst a wealth of others.
