Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is close to departing Stamford Bridge, according to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
The Belgian is reportedly on the verge of sealing a return to Germany with Wolfsburg. In 2012 Chelsea loaned the midfielder to rivals Werder Bremen where in 32 appearances for the club he scored 10 goals, but following a two year spell as a Chelsea player he has failed to break into the first team.
De Bruyne has had limited chances at Chelsea
De Bruyne was signed by Chelsea in January 2012 from Belgian outfit Genk on a five and a half year deal, he was subsequently loaned back to Genk for the remainder of the season. He then joined Werder Bremen but now looks poised to complete a permanent move to the Bundesliga.
Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho said:
“Kevin De Bruyne is more than probably leaving. It’s not closed but its close.”
This follows claims from Wolfsburg’s general manager Klaus Allofs that the clubs were nearing an agreement and he told both Wolfsburger Nachrichten and German broadcaster NDR:
“Kevin is in Wolfsburg. We hope that everything so far is going to plan. It’s not that we can confirm the deal just yet but we are no longer so far apart with Chelsea that we can’t bridge the differences.”
