Essien completes Milan move

Michael Essien, arguably one of the greatest central midfielders when in his prime, has completed his move to Seedorf’s AC Milan.

The 31-year-old Ghanaian has been a fantastic servant to the Blues over the years, but has struggled in recent seasons due to recurring injuries.

Having signed from Lyon for a record fee of 24 million in August 2005, ‘the Bison’ went on to make an admirable 257 appearances for the club. The versatile midfielder spent last season on loan at Real Madrid with current Chelsea boss Mourinho and has shown he is capable of occupying many positions on the pitch.

The true shame of Michael Essien is his injuries. Having initially failed his medical at Milan because of his knee problems, the 31-year-old will be ruing his unfortunate luck.

The Ghanaian international’s new contract has him plying his trade for Milan until the Summer of 2015. With a new manager in place looking to galvanize the squad, we can only hope Essien’s future is as prosperous as his past.

José Mourinho, or ‘daddy’ to Essien, has wished him luck on his travels,

“We would have been happy had he stayed because he is a fantastic player for the team, but he’s given everything for the club and a great chance arrived for his future”.

The Bison, who Chelsea fans will remember for his rugged tackling, progressive passing and wicked shots (especially against Arsenal) will be forever welcome at the Bridge.

Marred by injuries and in a race against time, Essien’s legs may not have what is required to play for Chelsea anymore, but there is no doubting the job he has done for this club, and what professionalism he did it with.
