Match Report Chelsea vs Hull City Tigers
Chelsea kill off Hull City to temporarily become top of the League.
The first half ended much in Chelsea’s frustration as they couldn’t find a way to break down a wall set up by Hull City’s defense.
Hull City did see a chance come their way after a missed pass from the usually reliable John Terry allowed Yannick Sagbo to find himself clear on goal, but the striker couldn’t convert.
Not much troubled Steve Bruce’s Tigers except when Cole and Hazard linked up in the box to fashion a chance for Oscar about nine yards from the goal. Keeper Allan McGregor denied Oscar’s solid strike with a brilliant save.
The first half ended at a dull 0-0.
Second Half
After a slow and sluggish first half, Chelsea came out from the break with a spring in their steps, controlling most of the possession and creating some chances.
Chelsea leading scorer Eden Hazard was the source of all attack thinking and fashioned a splendid piece of individual play to pass three defenders and slot a ball into the bottom right corner.
After the goal, the Hull City team desperately attempted to equalize, but simply ran out of ideas and were out-classed by the Chelsea midfield and defense.
As Hull City went to attack, it allowed Chelsea the space in the middle of the park to control and dictate the rest of the game.
Hull City did gain a small spell of possession outside the Chelsea box, but a pass to Torres’ feet allowed him to run past the defense and coolly finish off the game with a low shot, beating the Hull City goalkeeper. That goal came much to the relief of Chelsea and manager Jose Mourinho, who wildly celebrated in his technical area.
The 2-0 win was more than just 3 points to the Blues, whose goalkeeper, Petr Cech, broke the club record for most clean sheets with 209. Congrats to the legend Petr Cech. Also, Eden Hazard was awarded a well deserved, and unanimous, Man Of The Match.
