Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho doesn’t think Manchester United can get their hands on the title anymore.
Jose Mourinho claimed his 100th Premier league win as a manager after seeing his side beat Manchester United 3-1 at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
The victory from the Blues yesterday means Manchester United sit 12 points behind them, 13 points behind their rivals Manchester City and a further point adrift of the leaders Arsenal.
Chelsea’s coach admits he cannot see United overtaking all the top three. The gap is too wide even though it is still possible.
“Manchester United is Manchester United. Mathematically it is still possible, but it’s hard.”
“It is 14 for Arsenal, 13 for City, but also 12 to us, so maybe one team might collapse, but for all three teams to collapse to do that and lose so many points, I think it is difficult.
So for them I think it is the fight to finish top four which I think they can do. It is difficult, but with that pride and tradition they will fight and hopefully they win the other contenders as we don’t play against them in the league,” he added.
The win saw Jose Mourinho become the quickest manager in history to reach 100 Premier League wins, but he insisted the victory over Manchester United was his main concern.
“More important than anything is the 3 points today,” he said.
“Of course it is nice and 100 victories in the Premier League is obviously one more fantastic thing for my carreer, but the most important thing really is to win the match.”
“It is three important points for us because it now opens a gap between us and Manchester United and Liverpool and we’re still in contact with Manchester City and Arsenal,” he told Sky Sports.
Mourinho delighted with the squad
Jose was fairly delighted with his squad’s performance against Man United and admitted why he chose to play Samuel Eto’o in favour of Fernando Torres.
“Some of Samuel’s quality around the box, and Fernando is more about pace, about power and space, I was feeling today that United were trying to be compact and press us. I needed a player like Samuel and he works really well for us, the same as Fernando.”
Chelsea will host Stoke City next Sunday for the 4th round of the FA cup.
