David Moyes insists striker Wayne Rooney WON’T be sold this summer after comments made by Jose Mourinho earlier this week.
And David Moyes could yet surprise everyone by involving injury-hit Rooney against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
Regarding Chelsea’s on-and-off pursuit of Rooney, Jose Mourinho didn’t sound overly hopeful of acquiring the striker:
“Manchester United were very clear last summer, they don’t swap or sell players to their direct rivals in this country. I don’t see that changing this summer. But I think maybe they will try to sell to a non-direct rival, not in England.”
Despite these comments, United maintain that their intention is to secure Rooney on a new contract. When asked about the comments made on the England international, David Moyes said, “I completely disagree. The club do the right things, there is no doubt about that. We’ll make sure we do the things we need to do.”
Rooney comments disrespectful
Manchester United’s coach went on to say that he found Jose Mourinho’s comments towards the reds harsh, assuring that he would never talk of any club in the Premier league in such a disrespectful way.
“I wouldn’t do it but everybody has their own style. I wouldn’t talk about other managers or players at other clubs.”
