Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu, currently on loan at Valencia, has suffered a knee injury in training according to a report from Spain.
On Thursday, the 22-year-old felt a discomfort in his knee and had no option but to leave the pitch and be examined by a doctor. According to the medical staff at Valencia FC, the midfielder has what is called “internal meniscopathy.”
He is expected to be sidelined for at least a month if the initial diagnosis is to be confirmed. It is such a big blow for the loanee, who decided to join his native country to gain more playing time after struggling to have an impact at Stamford Bridge.
Oriol Romeu was a key player in the past weeks, helping his side beat Barcelona 3-2 at the Nou Camp. The injury comes 4 months before he plans to sit down and discuss his future at Chelsea with Jose Mourinho.
