Hazard targets league title win

Eden Hazard is confident Chelsea have the quality to win the Premier League title following the 1-0 victory at Manchester City.

Chelsea produced a master class at the Etihad on Monday night to hand City their first home defeat this season. The 1-0 scoreline doesn’t fairly depict Chelsea’s dominance as they also hit the woodwork three times and restricted Man City to any real chances, this despite their free flowing goal scoring form of late.

Hazard targets league title win

The Blues team defended tirelessly with the performances of Matic, Cahill, and Hazard highlights in what the Belgian believes could be a pivotal marker in Chelsea’s push for the title. Speaking to the Sun Hazard said:

“Lots of people thought that we would just set out to defend. But it was the opposite. The three points will be important in the title race. We are aiming to win the league. It won’t be easy, but we won’t give up, we have the qualities needed to do it.”

Though Mourinho has played down Chelsea’s title chances in his first season back in charge at Stamford Bridge, the Blues sit just two points behind leaders Arsenal. Chelsea’s run in is much more favourable than either City or Arsenal, the only fixtures left against the top seven are at home to Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton and a crucial away game at Anfield could yet be decisive in bringing the league title back to Stamford Bridge.

Cahill excited by Mourinho

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill who has also been in excellent form, claims there was never any intention of sitting back and playing solely to cancel out the title favourites.

“It makes me laugh when people say that. But we were disciplined defensively with the two midfielders and centre-backs staying solid. It was a class performance. We had to weather the storm for the first 10 or 15 minutes but the work-rate was fantastic and we managed to get the result we deserved overall.

“Jose has the CV for a reason. He is obviously a top-quality manager and we worked on a few things in the last couple of days which he was adamant we put into practice. It did pay off for us and we defended solidly with a fair share of the ball. The club is a massive club and when you have that and massive players, and you add a massive manager, I think it combines really well.”

The next run of results at home to Newcastle and away to West Brom are crucial in keeping up the pressure on rivals Arsenal and City, but there is a firm belief amongst the players if not by the manager that the final game of the season at Cardiff could see Chelsea playing for the Premier League title.
