Daniel Sturridge nearly lost his passion for football at Chelsea

The Liverpool player admits he fell out of love with football when he was at Chelsea.

Daniel Sturridge, who moved to Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013, has already scored 23 goals this season both for his club and national team in 28 appearances. He’s preparing for what seems to be a big crunch clash on Sunday when his team travel to Manchester United.

Despite the fact that Daniel Sturridge is only 24 years old and is on the form of his career, the striker admits he lost his passion for football when he was playing at Stamford Bridge. Speaking at the World Cup Tour final held in London yesterday, he said, “there was a time, only a couple of years ago, when I was scared I would be lost to the game. I had fallen out of love with football when I could not get in the team at Chelsea.”

The outstanding performance from the Suarez/Sturridge striker duo has found Liverpool in their first title race in five years. They are now tied for second in the Premier League with Arsenal. But despite their performances this year, Sturridge insists they remain the outsiders for the Premier League crown. “I think Chelsea are the favourites along with Manchester City,” he said. Liverpool and Arsenal currently sit seven points back from Chelsea, while fourth place Manchester City are only two points behind them with two games in hand. Liverpool do seem to be on the right track to qualify for next year’s Champions League competition, however.

Chelsea will travel this weekend to Aston Villa hoping to secure three points to remain separated from the pack.
