It’s not over till it’s over

“I think it is now impossible to win the title. We depend too much on other results.”

Those were the words Jose Mourinho said after Chelsea suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

This could just be the end of the road for Chelsea this season in the Premier League title race or this might be one of Mourinhos clever mind games to add more pressure on Liverpool and Man City for the remaining matches, because we all know that the Special One does not give up that easily.

Premier League is unpredictable at times, history suggests that the table can change even in a matter of weeks. One of those being in 1997/98 season when Man United were sitting at the top of the table by 12 points at the start of March. United’s slip and Arsenal’s impressive run made them the Champions that season.

2002/03 saw another dramatic collapse in the Premier League title race, Arsenal were clear favourites to win the title when they had led by eight points in March but saw their advantage trimmed back by United in the final weeks of the season. A crucial point for United against the North Londoners in April made it sure that they will be the Champions.

The most recent one we can all recall is during 2011/12 season when United let their advantage slip to eventual Champions Man City. With six matches remaining United were 8 points ahead of City and the title seemingly decided but a defeat and a draw in three games led them to collapse in the title race.

Liverpool and Man City have yet to play against each other, and it takes one match to turn things around. Chelsea still have a say in this title race and might just be the turning point they they visit Anfield.

This season is far from over, with the top three teams having to play against each other (apart from Chelsea against Man City). The table is still to change and its not over till its over. I for one will not throw in the towel just yet.
