Jose’s summer shopping spree

I start off this article at a bit of a contradiction instead I shall talk about the players which are likely to leave the club at the end of the season.

Clearly Jose was not happy after the loss at crystal palace on Saturday. We had 67% of the possession with only 2 of our shots on target. Not good enough.

There has to be some serious overall of the front men which includes the departures of Demba Ba who is likely to leave at the end of the season, and I know people will disagree with me on this point but in my opinion Fernando Torres must be surplus to requirements as well.

Samuel Eto’o I think should stay he has had a good season up until now and has been our best striker by quite a margin. Scoring important goals against Liverpool, the hat-rick against Manchester United and against Arsenal, a tidy finish it was too.

We can also use his experience for our benefit the player has been around the block a few times he’s gone and won the champions league with Inter and Barcelona, he’s played in numerous leagues winning things wherever he goes and I believe that this experience could benefit our younger players.

Romelu Lukaku does anybody know what to do with him? I certainly don’t and nor does Mr. Mourinho. Do we take him back from loan at the start of next season? Or do we simply keep loaning him out to other premier league clubs to cause mayhem to our rivals? He vowed at the start of the season to score more goals than any of our front players so far he has netted 12 goals in 26 games. S

Samuel Eto’o has scored 8 times this season in the league. Fernando Torres has managed to find the net just 4 times this season in the premier league. Something has got to be done.

First on the list is Diego Costa from Athletico Madrid he could cost us in the range of £35-40 million pounds. At the age of 25, his contract will run out in 2018 however a buy-out clause could potentially be triggered. Atheltico have a similar style of play to us as they like to work on the philosophy of counter-attacking football. Perhaps the inclusion of Thibaut Courtois in the mixer, could have a bearing on the price of the player.

Next on the list is Mario Mandzukic, who plays for Bayern Munich. With his contract expiring in June 2016 and with the acquisition of Robert Lewandowski in the summer, the Croatian might be on his way to the exit door with a price tag of around £15-20 million pounds. If we fail to sign Costa, then this might be the perfect alternative.

Finally our old friend Radamel Falcao comes up in the rumour mixer once again. Currently he is suffering from a cruciate knee ligament injury which rules him out for the rest of the season and most likely the world cup as well. The price tag for him would be in the region of 55-60 million.

Jose wants to the play the financial fair play game and in my opinion spending this sum of money on a player without selling off a few players or one big player is something which seems unlikely. He has a contract with the club until 2018 so he’s not at Monaco for the short term.

So it is clear that a new front man must be purchased in the summer it is important that we get it right, otherwise we could end up with another failed striker on our hands.
