Jose Mourinho today revealed that he will contest the FA misconduct charge levelled at him for walking onto the pitch at Villa Park last Saturday.
The FA states that by entering the field of play during the closing stages of Chelsea’s match at Villa Park on Saturday and approaching referee Chris Foy, the Chelsea manager has gone against the laws of the game and committed improper conduct.
Mourinho entered the field of play following Ramires’ horror challenge and resultant red card and claims that he just asked to speak with Foy “for 5 seconds”.
During post-match, Mourinho also claimed he had been singled out for punishment despite others, including Villa manager Paul Lambert and many Villa substitutes, entering the field of play at the same time.
However, in the pre-match press conference for the heavyweight clash with Arsenal, the Chelsea manager revealed that he would contest the proposed fine put against him by the FA:
“I’ve decided. I don’t accept the charges. I have to wait until Monday and work out what I will do.”
The Chelsea manager, clearly unhappy with the consequences of his actions, also claimed he was contesting “for obvious reasons”.
Jose Mourinho has until 6pm on 24 March 2014 to respond to the charge, and failure to do so means that the initial punishment will be induced on the Chelsea manager.
