Chelsea legend signs on: John Terry extends his contract

Chelsea captain John Terry has put pen to paper on a one-year extension to his contract that will see the Blues legend playing at Stamford Bridge once again next season.

The news broke on Tuesday afternoon after months of speculation regarding Terry’s future – much to the delight of anxious Chelsea fans.

The deal will see him stay in West London for until at least 2015, when this new extension runs out.

Reports of a paycut have taken much of the limelight, with JT reportedly reducing his wages from £150,000 per week down to an apparent £80,000 per week.

John Terry has been an integral part of Chelsea 2013/14 squad, in a campaign that has seen the backline that he commands concede just 27 goals – the best in the top flight.

This news will be a huge boost to the Chelsea side and the fans who will be wishing for a title challenge next season, and John Terry will no doubt have a huge part to play in that despite his advancing years.

JT has played over 600 games for The Blues, winning multiple trophies along the way, including, of course, the coveted Champions League trophy that he and the so called ‘old guard’ at Chelsea longed for.

Speaking after the deal was announced, Terry was keen to thank all involved with the club and look toward the future:

“I’d like to thank the fans and club for their continued support, and the Manager who was instrumental for me the last season.”

“I’m delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea taking me into my 20th year with the club”, the centre-back added.

News will now need to be awaited on the futures of other Chelsea stars with contracts set to expire, with news on Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard’s future yet to surface.

The news comes a day after Chelsea agreed a fee for Atlético Madrid hitman Diego Costa; it certainly looks like an exciting transfer period for Blues’ fans.
