Chelsea’s all time leading scorer Frank Lampard has admitted he is unsure where he’ll be playing his football next year.
There had been rumours that ‘Super Frank’ had sealed a new one-year deal at Chelsea, however with Lampard keen to focus on the World Cup, these reports have died down.
Speaking to The Sun, the midfielder claimed that he was still unsure where he would be playing football next season, if he carries on at all.
“I don’t know if I’ll be at Chelsea next season. I’d like to carry on for two or three more years but it would be good to end on a high.”
“So, if that means it all ends tomorrow, I wouldn’t have any regrets”, the 35-year-old added.
“You know your shelf-life, so I started to mentally prepare when I hit 30. I’ve been doing this for a long time, so there’s a part of me that’s looking forward to the future.”
Chelsea fans will surely want to see one of their all-time greats end his career with the Blues, but with reports of another midfielder or two arriving in the shape of Tiago and possibly Pogba, Lampard’s playing time looks limited.
If these negotiations roll on into the World Cup, Lampard’s current deal will expire whilst he is on England duty, and more uncertainty will arise over the future of one of Chelsea’s best ever players.
With Chelsea, Lampard has won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Europa League and, of course, the Champions League trophy.
He is also Chelsea’s all time top scorer, despite playing midfield, with 211 goals since joining in 2001 from London rivals West Ham.
